Wearable Cake? Surely not!
So I thought I would update you on something super exciting that I am doing at the end of this week, as its quiet sometime since I last wrote a Blog.
Since the start of the year, I have been busy reorganising the Cuppa Cake Kitchen to enable me to take on more cake orders. This week I am going to Nottingham to undertake more training. This training is with Dawn Butler (my cake idol) of Dinkydoodle Designs by Dawn Butler. I have wanted to do this training for a long time so I am very excited. Dawn is the queen of Air Brushing Cakes and even has her own branded Airbrushes. If your not familiar with what air brushing its, in simple terms is spray painting edible paint onto cakes, using an air compressor, and a specially designed pen.
I have used my air brush many times, but i never quiet get the effect i wanted, so i’m hopeful that after this training my skills will be much improved. Dawn is also a cake innovator, as she has made cakes that you can actually wear. YES WEAR !!!
Dawn is the designer of the “Carry Cake kits”, although i personally have not made a cake using this kit I have seen them at Cake International and other trade events. This kit allows you to make and carry (with the handle) cakes such as handbags, baskets of flowers, tool boxes, the list is as long as your imagination. Dawn has also produced cakes such as guitars, that you can actually put around your neck, and you should see her cakes that have moving parts!! these are incredible. I actually posted a video of one of these moving part cakes over on my Facebook page last week, why not head over and have a look? I have put a link below to Dawn’s Facebook page if you want to have a look at some of her incredible cakes.
On this 4 day course I will be making several cakes, all using different skills and techniques. Dawn Really is one of the leading ladies in Cake decorating circles and I can’t wait to learn lots of new skills and improve the skills I already have. So keep your eyes on both my Instagram and Facebook pages for updates during the course this coming weekend and I will of course do a blog next week about how I get on meeting my cake idol and learning new techniques.
